NICO Holdings Limited has donated MK1million towards Nation Publications Limited (NPL) Mothers’ Day Fun Run scheduled for October 8, 2016 in Mzimba.
The money is expected to be used to buy standard beds, mattresses and digital thermometers.
Speaking after the donation on Wednesday in Blantyre, NICO Holdings Limited corporate affairs manager Mbumba Mlia Ndasauka said the Malawi Stock Exchange listed financial services group made the donation the money as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR).
She Said: “We are involved in different CSR activities, and we thought this is one area we can come in and make a difference. So when we heard that NPL is running this project we thought that this is a good area where we can partner with NPL.
“It feels good to be part of an initiative that can change people's lives and we feel
happy that we can make a difference."
In her remarks, NPL's marketing assistant Vanessa Mdala hailed NICO Holdings
Limited for the timely donation, which she said it will help make a difference in the lives of mothers and children of Mzimba.
“With this donation, we are going to help expectant mothers in Mzimba who, because of lack of beds, sleep on the floor, making it difficult for doctors to properly assist them.
“We have now managed to buy 24 beds out of our target of 50 and we are hoping
others would emuiate this kind gesture," she said.
NPL Mother’s Day Fun Run, which has been taking place since 2005, is a CSR project of NPL dedicated to the cause of safe motherhood.
The project positively impacts the well-being of expectant mothers and their unborn babies and children through provision of maternal and neonatal health care equipment and supplies to government hospitals and health centers.
